Palm Beach Student Charged With DUI
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLORIDA - Police have charged a Palm Beach County high school student with DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide. A North Palm Beach man was stopped at an intersection while delivering a pizza for Domino’s Pizza when driver Beruch Zegeye, 17, rammed into the back of his car. The victim, 45-year-old Paul Krommendyk, was killed instantly. A DUI manslaughter with almost identical facts occurred in Broward County just one month earlier. DUI attorneys have since sought to block the state from accessing a recording device located within the automobile.
Police said Zegeye had been out partying with friends earlier and had driven his Porsche at around 80 mph in a 45 mph zone. The student’s blood alcohol level was reportedly at 0.072 percent, which is above the legal limit of 0.02 for drivers who are under 21. DUI attorneys like William Moore, openly criticize Florida's Zero Tolerance Policy as being unfair and confusing to younger drivers.
As a result of his drunk driving charges, Zegeye is required to wear an ankle bracelet and is only allowed to leave his house to go to school, church, and the doctor’s office. He was released on $50,000 bond.
