Florida Man Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison for DUI
FLORIDA – On Monday, a man from Immokalee, Florida who was charged with DUI received a sentencing of eights year in Florida state prison for the April, 2006 collision that caused the death of a Fort Myers woman. Rufino Ortiz Hernandez reportedly told Florida Highway Patrol officers that he drank six beers before driving his 1998 Ford SUV. His vehicle drifted into the northbound lane of State Road 29 and hit a car driven by Adlean Denett Vance, 41.
Vance’s Cadillac became engulfed in flames, and she was pronounced dead at the scene of the drunk driving accident. According to reports, Hernandez’s blood alcohol level was measured at .11 percent, above Florida’s legal limit of .08 percent.
Hernandez spoke through a translator as he pleaded no contest to a felony charge of DUI manslaughter and a misdemeanor charge of DUI with damage to another person or property. Since his arrest, he has already served over two years in prison and will finish out his eight year sentence. Because he was in the country illegally, he will required to return to Mexico after he is released from prison.
